Our Newest Toy

We traded in our 2004 Itasca Spirit on a 2005 Kountry Star by Newmar.

For months we have gone back and forth about getting a Class A motorhome. The main reason to do it was the million dollar view from the front seats and the much improved view from the "passenger" seats.

The Kountry Star is a "diesel pusher". That just means that the diesel engine is in the rear so the "doghouse" and raised body for the drive train are gone. The bedroom slide gives us more closet space and the front slide is a lot wider so when it's out we have more walking around space.

The front passenger door is the only way in. I'm not sure if that's a disadvantage or not. I thought that would mean I'd have an excuse not to gas it up. Wrong! Although RoseMary has been nice enough to let me drive it occasionally.

From the top you can see the air horns (better than a certain hand salute for offending drivers), the satellite dish, solar charger for the engine battery, 2 air-conditioners/heat pumps and assorted vents and skylights. See if you can spot Thidwick, the Yellowstone moose, in his usual spot on the dash.

For those that care about that sort of thing, here's a page of specs, capacities, and floorplan. We got a huge discount off the MSRP because it was a carry-over and the model was discontinued. Our cost was about what I figured we could get a 2004 for - used. Kountry Star models now start around 35 feet while the shorter models like this one are Ventana models. In fact ours is much like the 2006 3330 model .

Except for the Spirit's picture, taken near Mount Shasta, these pictures were all taken around Lake Tahoe. The million dollar view is taken on route 50 as you drop down into the Tahoe Basin. The lake is in the middle of the picture. It was kind of a murky day so the the scenery is muted by the haze.

The other pictures are taken from the roof of Darrell and Anita's aprtment (converted garage) and in their driveway at South Lake Tahoe.
