Big Basin State Park

Located in the Santa Cruz mountains, between San Jose and Santa Cruz, Big Basin is known for its virgin stands of virgin old-growth coastal redwoods.

This cross-section is from a tree that started growing in 440 AD. The tree died in 1920. Just for reference, Brandon is 6 feet tall.

 

Brandon, Alex, Kenny, Cassie and Robbie by a fallen giant. Robbie's standing on part of the trunk, although he's about the same height as Alex.
